Sweet and with a more subtle aroma than orange, Tangerine essential oil is said to promote happiness and have a positive effect on cellulite and stretch marks. This oil is also a favorite with children. Tangerine essential oil is useful for improving circulation and reducing fluid retention. It also seems to have a gentle, soothing action on the nervous system and so is helpful for stress and tension.

Valerian root has historically been one of the most calming herbs in common use. The essential oil can be used in a variety of ways. One of the most popular for sleep inducing is applying a few drops directly to the tops and/or bottoms of the feet before retiring for the night. Valerian is a warming, sedative herb with bitter principles. Valerian is used to calm the nerves, assist with pain relief, stimulate the appetite, lower blood pressure, relax spasms and improve digestion. Both Hippocrates and Galen recommended Valerian as a remedy for insomnia. |

Ylang ylang flowers are usually distilled several times, with the earlier distillations typically giving the nicer aromatics.
